In Feb 2015 One year old JABRICK was stolen from her mother as she was being killed. Habitat destruction gives illegal poachers easier access to animals that ordinarily would be harder to reach. JABRICK was very skinny & weak & the 'surrogate parents' (local villagers) realised they did not know how to care for such a young baby & so thankfully, surrendered her to The Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) & was taken to COP Borneo Rehabilitation Centre. JABRICK was severely malnourished as she had been fed a diet of only condensed milk. An orangutan baby in the wild can suckle from their mother for up to 8yrs & so JABRICK was denied the many antibodies & nutrients normally absorbed from Mum.

When JABRICK first arrived at the Rehabilitation Centre it took many months to bring her health to a level where she could attend 'Forest School'. Once there however, although only a baby she was one of the top climbers & would often not come down at the end of the day.

In Nov 2015 JABRICK, whose immune system had been compromised due to being stolen from her mother at such a young age caught Malaria. She became extremely ill
& required 24hr care. Eventually the little fighter that she was started to slowly recover & went back to Forest School. Once again she would climb the highest tree & not want to come down at the end of each day. JABRICK the baby of the group was top of her Forest School class!

In Late Dec 2015, disaster from a weakened immune system struck again & JABRICK caught the the flu.  Once again she was kept warm & she was encouraged to eat but had little appetite. Her condition deteriorated as she would not eat or drink. Sadly on 15th January JABRICK climbed her highest highest tree yet & passed away.

With Compassion & Soul (who funded the build & operation of COP Borneo for the first 3yrs) & The Centre for Orangutan Protection (who manage the centre) remain absolutely devastated as she was one of COP Borneo’s little champions.
